Cal star Giavara loses by walkover in UTR $25K

   Tsehay Driscoll, a high school sophomore from Pacific Palisades in the Los Angeles area, defeated Haley Giavara, an All-American at the University of California, Berkeley, by walkover today in the $25,000 UTR Pro Tennis Series in Newport Beach, Calif.
   Driscoll improved to 1-1 in the round-robin phase of the singles-only tournament, and Giavara fell to 2-1. After a day off on Thursday, Giavara is scheduled to play her round-robin finale on Friday against Taylor Ng (2-0), 25, of Collingswood, N.J.
    Bridget Stammel (2-1) of Dallas routed Madison Weekley (0-2) of Alamo in the San Francisco Bay Area 6-0, 6-2 in a matchup of high school juniors. They have verbally committed to Saint Mary's in the Bay Area and Vanderbilt, respectively, in 2022.
   Weekley is slated to play Camille Kiss (0-3), a freshman at UC Santa Barbara from Redlands, Calif., on Thursday. Rebecca Lynn, a high school junior from Newport Beach, beat Kiss by walkover.
   ATP Challenger Tour — Second-seeded Andre Goransson (Cal, 2014-17) of Sweden and David Pel, a 6-foot-6 (1.98-meter) left-hander from the Netherlands, topped wild cards Marsel Ilhan, an Uzbekistan native who plays for Turkey, and Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 7-6 (2), 7-5 on an indoor hardcourt in the first round of the €132,280 ($160,632) Istanbul Challenger.
   ATP Tour — The U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, originally scheduled for April 5-11, in Houston have been canceled.
