Ex-Cal star Goransson reaches Istanbul doubles semis

   Second-seeded Andre Goransson (Cal, 2014-17) of Sweden and David Pel of the Netherlands topped unseeded Frenchmen Antoine Hoang and Albano Olivetti 6-7 (5), 6-4 [10-5] on an indoor hardcourt today in the quarterfinals of the €132,280 ($160,632) Istanbul Challenger.
   Goransson and Pel, a 6-foot-6 (1.98-meter) left-hander, are scheduled to play unseeded Americans Robert Galloway and Alex Lawson on Friday.
   Galloway and Lawson edged Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia and Emilio Gomez of Ecuador 6-3, 6-7 (5) [10-6]. Gomez's father, Andres, won the 1990 French Open singles title.
   In the other doubles semifinal, top-seeded Jonathan Erlich, 43, of Israel and Andrei Vasilevski of Belarus are slated to meet unseeded Lloyd Glasspool of Great Britain and Harri Heliovaara of Finland. Erlich won 2008 Australian Open doubles crown with countryman Andy Ram.
   UTR Pro Tennis Series — Madison Weekley of Alamo, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay Area defeated Camille Kiss of Redlands, Calif., by walkover in Newport Beach, Calif.
   Weekley, a high school junior who has verbally committed to Saint Mary's in the Bay Area, improved to 1-2 in round-robin play in the $25,000 singles-only tournament. Kiss, a freshman at UC Santa Barbara, fell to 0-4, including two walkovers.  
   Weekley is scheduled to complete round-robin play on Friday against Rebecca Lynn, a high school junior from Newport Beach.
   Cal All-American Haley Giavara, a sophomore from San Diego, withdrew from her round-robin finale on Friday against Taylor Ng, 25, of Collingswood, N.J. Giavara dropped to 2-2, including two walkovers.
   Cal women — No. 19 Cal, playing for the first time in nine months, beat visiting Saint Mary's 6-1. The match was closed to the public.
   The Bears are set to compete Saturday and Sunday in the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
