Former top-20 singles player Dmitry Tursunov soared 462 places to No. 583 this week after his first ATP World Tour match victory in almost two years.
Tursunov, a 33-year-old Russian based in the Sacramento suburb of Granite Bay, defeated Sam Groth of Australia in the first round at Acapulco before losing to eventual champion Dominic Thiem of Austria 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.
Groth holds the unofficial record with a 163.7-mph (263.4 kph) serve in the 2012 Busan (South Korea) Challenger.
The victory over Groth was Tursunov's first since he beat Bradley Klahn, the 2010 NCAA champion from Stanford, in the first round on grass at s-Hertogensbosch, the Netherlands, in June 2014.
Tursunov won the last of his seven career singles titles at s-Hertogenbosch in 2011.
Klahn has been sidelined since February last year with a herniated disc in his back that required surgery for the second time.
Tursunov returned to competition last October after missing more than one year with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and pain in his left ankle. He had surgery on the ankle twice in 2009, to remove bone spurs and then a chip.
The Acapulco tournament was Tursunov's first since the Australian Open in January, when he retired with a hip injury while trailing No. 4 seed and 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka 7-6 (2), 6-3.
It was Tursunov's first Grand Slam tournament since he lost to Alejandro Gonzalez of Columbia in the first round of the 2014 U.S. Open.
