Danielle Collins of the Orlando Storm was dismissed for the rest of the World TeamTennis season after breaking the league's COVID-19 protocols by leaving The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.V., and the state, WTT CEO Carlos Silva announced today.
"The protocols have been put in place and communicated numerous times to protect the health and safety of our players, coach and staff, which (is) of utmost important to WTT," Silva said in a statement.
Collins reached the semifinals of the 2019 Australian Open, catapulting her to a career-high No. 23, and the inaugural Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic at San Jose State University in 2018.
No replacement for Collins, a two-time NCAA singles champion (2014 and 2016) at Virginia who has fallen to No. 51, has been named. Orlando (3-4) has another 26-year-old American, Jessica Pegula, and doubles specialist Darija Jurak, 36, of Croatia.
Pegula, the daughter of Buffalo Bills and Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula, is ranked No. 80.
