15-year-olds advance in Challenger qualifying

Two 15-year-olds won first-round qualifying matches on Saturday in the $50,000 FSP Gold River Women's Challenger.
Kelly Chen of Cerritos in the Los Angeles area routed fifth-seeded Anamika Bhargava, 25, of the United States 6-3, 6-0 at the Gold River Racquet Club in the Sacramento area. Also, Karina Vyrlan of Sacramento dominated Alexandra Champion, also 15, of Houston 6-0, 6-2.

Another 15-year-old, Alaina Miller of Saratoga (near San Jose), lost to Miami's Chanelle Van Nguyen, who helped UCLA win the NCAA team title in May, 6-2, 6-2.
Miller, who uses two hands on both sides, won the 18-and-under title in the NorCal Girls' Sectional Championships last month at the Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa in Sacramento.
In today's featured match, top-seeded Jacqueline Cako of Brier, Wash., will face Jennifer Brady of Boca Raton, Fla., and UCLA at noon.
Main-draw play is scheduled for Monday through Saturday night. Admission is free for all day sessions and $10 for night sessions.
