Capitals' Rojer extends doubles win streak

Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer, a member of the Sacramento Capitals in World TeamTennis, won their fifth straight doubles match Wednesday. Extending their streak Thursday will take some doing.
Qureshi and Rojer, who won the doubles title in last week's Estoril (Portugal) Open, topped Spaniards Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Ivan Navarro 6-3, 7-5 in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open on blue clay.
Next up for Qureshi, from Pakistan, and Rojer, from the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, are top-seeded Bob and Mike Bryan on Thursday. The former Stanford All-Americans have won the Madrid Open four times, including the last two years.
Many players -- including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer -- have criticized the blue clay, saying that it's slippery.
Men's Challenger in Busan, South Korea -- Nima Roshan of Australia and Jimmy Wang, a Taiwan native who trains in the Sacramento area, lost to Daniel Garza of Mexico and Danai Udomchoke of Thailand 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 tiebreak in the opening round of the $75,000 Busan Open.
Men's Futures in Orange Park, Fla. -- Pedro Zerbini, an ex-Cal standout from Brazil, fell to eighth-seeded Dennis Lajola of Aiea, Hawaii, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the $10,000 Eagle Landing Tennis Classic.
Lajola, a former University of Hawaii star, also beat Zerbini 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round of qualifying for the SAP Open in San Jose in February. Lajola went on to reach his first main draw on the ATP World Tour before losing to qualifier Dimitar Kutrovsky of Bulgaria, 7-6 in the third set, in the opening round.
